This is the final prerelease of WebWasher 2.1.1 Macintosh version. The function set is complete and we have fixed many problems that you told us, thank you for all your feedback. WebWasher runs very stable in our test environments for weeks now. If your environment still shows fatal problems like crashes, please tell us as soon as possible.

Adding of URLs by Drag&Drop
URLs of images can simply be added to the URL filter list by dragging them from the browser and dropping them onto the WebWasher settings dialog.

Cookie Filter
WebWasher filters incoming cookies from the Web server and outgoing cookies that are sent by the browser to the server. Useful cookies continue to work, Cookies violating the user's privacy are disarmed or deleted. This feature can be activated with a single click.

Automatic Browser Configuration
WebWasher can do the necessary proxy server settings automatically.
When starting WebWasher the program can enter itself as a proxy server in the browser. Already existing proxy settings are used by WebWasher. When WebWasher quits the settings are reset.
Therefore it is possible to easily surf with or without WebWasher, without the need to do any settings within the browser by hand.
Attention: If WebWasher is not quitted correctly, the proxy settings are not yet reset. Simply start and quit WebWasher again to revert all settings.
The way of proxy configuration depends on the browser. Netscape Communicator╒s settings cannot be changed while the browser is running. If you tell WebWasher to configure Netscape Communicator for a selected user, the browser is quitted first if necessary. After changing the configuration, WebWasher launches the browser again for the selected user. When WebWasher quits, it also quits Netscape Communicator and resets the changes.
Other browses like the Internet Explorer and iCab and also other programs using HTTP like Sherlock, all use the settings made in the Internet control panel (Internet config). For these programs the changes or done in the control panel automatically; a restart of the programs mentioned above is not necessary.
Control Strip Module
WebWasher installs a module for the control strip which can be very helpful for configuring WebWasher and to observe WebWasher╒s state. If your control strip is invisible you may want to activate it using the system╒s ╥Control Strip╙ control panel.
Connections via Modem
WebWasher itself does not dial the modem. WebWasher is activated when OpenTransport starts TCP/IP. Normally this does not happen automatically when you connect to your Internet provider but soon after when the first program starts a TCP/IP connection.
If you open a WebPage directly after dialing-up, it is possible that the very first request fails (depending on the browser you use). If this happens, click the ╥Reload╙ button of your browser.
Help
On MacOS 8.5 or newer WebWasher help (prerelease version) is installed in the System Help. So you can find WebWasher Help in the Help Center. While WebWasher is running, you will also find an item for WebWasher Help in the help menu.
On older systems WebWasher Help is installed next to the application. If you use such a system, please use the file ╥Help.html╙ which is also located next to the program to display the help within the browser of your choice.
